The Piedmont\u2019s Bronze Age Confederate Monuments: A Quasi Archaeological Report <\/a><\/h3>\n

Dr. Gary R. Freeze<\/a>, the William R. Weaver Professor of Humanities at Catawba College, will discuss the tarnished sentinels to something presumed \u201clost\u201d, yet endlessly \u201cnot forgotten\u201d in the American South. The recently resumed combat over public display of Confederate monuments has emboldened some scholars to maneuver beyond the present parameters of postmodern culture wars. This presentation\u2014using as artifacts the monuments within an hour\u2019s drive from Davidson\u2014examines their \u201cmodality\u201d in conventional terms, but speculates in new ways about their \u201cmettle\u201d.<\/p>\n

Davidson College welcomes back Stephen Anderson as he performs with the Dominican Jazz Project. Formed out of a trip to the 2014 Jazzomania Jazz Festival in Santo Domingo, the group is known for their combination of jazz with traditional Dominican styles such as bachata and merengue.
