Performance preceded by a short Q&A
Olivia and Odaymara were born in Cuba and lived there most of their lives until recently when they moved to the US. They were a part of the hip hop movement in Cuban in the 1990s and have always been on the cutting edge of anti-racist and anti-sexist work.
Supported by the Dean Rusk program and Africana and Latin American studies, this will be a real treat for all interested in the intersection of anti-racist, anti-sexist, and anti-homophobic activism.

Jorge Castañeda stands among Mexico’s most influential public intellectuals and political leaders. The author of ten books, Jorge Castañeda’s writing about a wide range of global issues has appeared in Time, The Washington Post, The New York Times and Newsweek. During his time as Mexico’s foreign minister (2000-2003), Jorge Castañeda placed immigration at the center of US-Mexican relations.

- This fall, Davidson College students, faculty, and staff will unite with local Latin American immigrants in an eight-week intercultural extravaganza! Coming together for a shared meal, participants will explore issues our communities face, build relationships, and ultimately engage in advocacy. Our end goal is to create a documentary that will amplify immigrant voices as we share it with local government officials, nonprofit organizations, and community members.

Gallery Talk given by Alvin Jacobs on the lobby exhibition, Three Steps Back: A Call to Action. The exhibit – which features Alvin’s photographs of Black Lives Matter protests around the country — will open in Cunningham on Oct 26, and remain on view until Dec 10. Alvin’s photos are currently on display at the Levine Museum of the New South as part of the KNOW JUSTICE, KNOW PEACE exhibit.

A conversation led by Dave Newell, Director, Chidsey Center for Leadership Development, and Walter Snipes, Associate Director of Residential Life. Dave and Walter will guide participants through a process aimed at collaboratively brainstorming concrete action steps for addressing racial injustice.
